The Best Screen Settings to Avoid Eye Strain

Your screen setup can make a huge difference in preventing eye fatigue during long work sessions. Small adjustments to brightness, contrast, and color temperature can help you maintain visual comfort.

  1. Brightness.
Set your screen brightness to match the lighting around you. If your screen looks like a light source in a dark room, it’s too bright. If it looks dull, it’s too dim. Balanced brightness reduces strain and prevents headaches.
  2. Contrast.
Higher contrast improves text clarity, especially for reading. For most users, a medium-to-high contrast setting is best, as it makes characters sharper without causing glare.
  3. Color temperature.
Warmer tones (yellowish light) are easier on the eyes, especially in the evening. Cooler tones (bluish light) may be better during the day but can interfere with sleep at night. Many devices now include a “night shift” mode to reduce blue tones.
  4. Font size and resolution.
Increase text size to avoid squinting, and ensure your display resolution is set to its native setting for maximum clarity.
  5. Anti-glare settings.
If possible, use matte screen protectors or adjust screen angle to reduce reflections.

Optimizing your screen doesn’t require expensive tools, just a few mindful adjustments. Your eyes will thank you with less fatigue and greater comfort throughout the day.
